  • CoChair: Prof. Godai Miyaji, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Japan.

About COLA:

The International Conference on Laser Ablation (COLA) is the premier conference in the field of laser ablation and applications. Since 1991, COLA has been bringing together laser scientists, end-users, and industry to review state-of-the-art and next-generation laser ablation technologies. COLA is an interdisciplinary conference, and the topics cover a wide range of scientific research that bridges the gap between basic science and applications/technology. https://www.cola2021.org/about-cola.html

Congratulations to Chunli!

Chunli was awarded ALEPSCoR’s Round 17 Graduate Research Scholars Program (GRSP). The objective of the research is to investigate the emergent ferroic orders in oxide thin films. The major scientific question to answer is resolving complex ferroic domain patterns and monitoring the switching events of ferroic domains under external fields. The research topic for GRSP is the key to the design of data storage devices for future quantum applications and quantum information with the integration of Artificial intelligence and machine learning.

August 2020

Prof. Mahjouri-Samani is now a Senior Editor of the Journal of Laser Applications (JLA). See below.

The Journal of Laser Applications (JLA) is the scientific platform of the Laser Institute of America (LIA) and is published in cooperation with AIP Publishing. The high-quality articles cover a broad range from fundamental and applied research and development to industrial applications. Therefore, JLA is a reflection of the state-of-R&D in photonic production, sensing and measurement as well as Laser safety. Due to the current grand societal challenges such as resource saving, energy, mobility, health and defense the foci and trends of applied photonics have been changing over the past years, significantly. Hence, the structure of JLA has been improved to meet these trends, yet maintaining the structure according to scientific areas of competence.

July 2020

Prof. Mahjouri-Samani is now an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Extreme Manufacturing, IOP Sciences.

Scope

The International Journal of Extreme Manufacturing (IJEM) publishes original research of the highest quality related to science and technology of manufacturing functional devices and systems with extreme dimensions (extremely large or small) and/or functionalities under extreme conditions or environments, ranging from fundamental science to cutting-edge technologies that support the manufacturing of high-performance products involving emerging techniques and breaking the limits of currently known theories, methods, scales, environments, and performance.

Extreme manufacturing is specifically manifested in manufacturing with extremely high energy density, ultrahigh precision, extremely small spatial and temporal scales, extremely intensive fields, and giant systems with extreme complexity and number of factors. It involves multidisciplinary fields, including machinery, materials, optics, physics, chemistry, mechanics, and mathematics.

May 2020

Congratulations to Salah for publishing his first paper in the Journal of Nanomaterials “Gas-Phase Formation of Highly Luminescent 2D GaSe Nanoparticle Ensembles in a Nonequilibrium Laser Ablation Process

February 2020

What a great Engineering Day (E-Day) at Auburn University. Professor Mahjouri-Samani and LASE-END students demonstrated the laser-materials interactions to more than 300 students. A laser processing/engraving machine was set up to show the effect on operation. The students got the chance to design their names on the instrument software and laser engrave it on a key tag as a souvenir.
